MEET THE COACH

Hello There!

My name is Can AYDIN. I’m a London-based fencing coach from Istanbul, Turkey.

You can call me John as it is pronounced in Turkish.

Plain & Simple:

I LOVE FENCING!SPORTS!

With almost 35 years of experience in competitive sports, I have dedicated my life to inspire future generations by teaching fencing and sharing the joy & love of sports.

Proud for

the PAST

I’m happy and proud of my career in sports with all my achievements at the national and international levels both as a fencer and then as a coach.

My Introduction To Fencing2023-05-07T21:05:59+00:00

It would not be wrong to say that my introduction to fencing dates back to my early childhood years when I was in a stroller. I spent lots of time in fencing environments due to the training and competitions of my father, who was a competitive fencer at the time.

Therefore, it was inevitable for me to begin fencing. I found myself in foil sessions at the age of 7. Although I did not enjoy fencing at those ages, I managed to become the Turkish Champion in the U13 category.

Falling In Love2023-05-08T12:57:07+00:00

My love, enjoyment and passion for fencing started when I quit foil fencing and started to train in sabre after the age of 14. I won many Turkish Championships in every age category. I become a permanent member of the National Team and represented my country in many European and World Championships.

Undoubtedly, some of my coaches had a great influence on my successful career as an athlete. Meral Goren, Husnu Sengezer and Bogdan Horeanu are the ones at the top of the list. Besides these great coaches, I need to mention how lucky I was to be able to train in the US with Vladimir Nazlymov, one of the world’s leading coaches.

Important Achievements2023-05-07T21:26:06+00:00

Since Turkey was not a strong country in fencing, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals I won at the Balkan Championships in the late 90s can be considered important international achievements for myself and Turkish Fencing.

Career In Fencing2023-05-08T12:58:03+00:00

It was during my high-school years that I decided to become a fencing coach in the future.

I stepped into coaching in 2005. My great motivation was to achieve something that has never done in Turkish Fencing history: having medal-winning athletes in European and World Championships. Even though people laughed at my dream, the dream eventually came true.

Coaching Experience2023-05-08T12:58:27+00:00

After coaching for 10 years at Altinyurt, I established Parat Ripost and continued my coaching career in Turkey until 2022.

During this period, from beginners to advanced fencers, I had more than 17 years of coaching experience in competitive fencing. My athletes have won nearly 400 medals in national and international competitions.

Every season, I coached National Teams and had my fencers compete in World Cups, European and World Championships.

In 2022, I decided to continue my coaching career abroad. I luckily joined Leon Paul Project in London, which is the most comprehensive training programme in the UK. With this, I became the first Turkish coach working abroad among the coaches whose coaching career started and continued in Turkey.

The Dream Came True2023-05-08T12:58:56+00:00

The medals won in the U17, U23 and Seniors European Championships are among my most important coaching achievements. Apart from these, my athletes won many medals in other international competitions including World Cups.

I served National Team in all sorts of competitions. I had the privilege to represent Turkey at Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

After all, I’m proud to help develop sabre fencing in Turkey throughout my career.

Other Contributions2023-05-08T12:59:20+00:00

Besides working as a coach and serving National Teams, I also contributed to Turkish Fencing as a referee and in administrative positions.

I’m a holder of a National (Level 3) Refereeing License. Especially during the first years of my coaching career, I often refereed in national and international competitions.

At various times, I served as a member of the Refereeing and Technical Commissions of the Turkish Fencing Federation. In 2021, I became a candidate and ran for the presidency of the federation.

passionate for

the future

With almost 20 years of experience in coaching under my belt, I can’t wait to pass on my knowladge to the younger generations.

New Challanges2023-05-08T13:00:00+00:00

In 2022, I joined the Leon Paul High-Performance Project because I think that a new challenge will move myself forward in my coaching career. Being a part of the project provides high motivation for me. I look forward to helping British fencers to get better results internationally.
